See how the 11-hour driving limit, 14-hour window, 30-minute break, and weekly cycle work together—then estimate the time remaining on each clock.

How much time do you have left?

¿Cuánto tiempo te queda?

Use the totals displayed by your ELD. This calculator does not reconstruct split-sleeper pairings or exceptions.

The four clocksLos cuatro relojes

The smallest remaining clock controls your driving.

Having driving time left does not help if the 14-hour window or cycle has expired.

11

Driving limit

Límite manejando

Up to 11 total driving hours after 10 consecutive hours off duty.

14

Driving window

Ventana de manejo

You may not drive after the 14th consecutive hour after coming on duty. Ordinary stops do not pause it.

8

Break clock

Reloj del descanso

After 8 cumulative driving hours without a qualifying 30-minute interruption, stop driving and take the break.

70

Weekly cycle

Ciclo semanal

Usually 70 hours in 8 days for carriers operating CMVs every day; otherwise 60 in 7.

This simplified graphic explains the standard window; properly paired split-sleeper periods are a separate calculation.

What counts as the 30-minute break?

¿Qué cuenta como descanso de 30 minutos?

At least 30 consecutive minutes in off-duty, sleeper berth, on-duty/not-driving status, or a consecutive combination of those statuses. The rule is triggered after 8 cumulative hours of driving, not merely 8 hours on duty.

What resets each clock?

¿Qué reinicia cada reloj?

  • 10 consecutive hours off resets the standard 11/14-hour clocks.
  • A qualifying 30-minute interruption resets the break clock.
  • A compliant 34-hour restart may reset the 60/70-hour cycle; recaps may also restore hours as older days roll off.

Exceptions need separate treatment

Las excepciones requieren otro análisis

Short-haul, adverse-driving, split-sleeper, emergency, agricultural, oilfield, Alaska, passenger-carrying, and state intrastate rules can change the calculation. This page intentionally does not guess whether an exception applies.

You may work after a clock expires—but not drive

The 11-hour, 14-hour, and 60/70-hour limits restrict driving a property-carrying CMV. Other on-duty work may continue, but it adds to the cycle and you still cannot drive until legally qualified again.
