Why this website exists
New drivers often meet unfamiliar regulations, English terminology, school contracts, financing offers, and job promises at the same time. That combination makes it difficult to know what is legally required, what is merely recommended, and what is a sales claim. Mercury organizes those subjects into practical explanations in English and Spanish.
Editorial lead
Leonardo Corredor
Founder and editorial lead of Mercury CDL Training. Leonardo is a Class A commercial driver and trucking/logistics operations professional with more than two decades of commercial-driving experience. His background includes multi-state freight, tanker, hazardous-materials, chemical, and industrial transportation.
His perspective extends beyond the driver's seat. Leonardo has worked in operations supervision and logistics management, coordinating teams and daily transportation activity while supporting safe, reliable service. His leadership experience includes mentoring and training drivers, maintaining driver qualification files, establishing FMCSA-compliant procedures, and improving fleet safety practices.
Leonardo also owned and managed a small trucking/logistics company. He was responsible for the broader operation—not only driving—including fleet compliance, maintenance coordination, routing, payroll, customer service, and safety. That experience gave him a practical understanding of how regulatory obligations, documentation, operating costs, service commitments, and management decisions affect both drivers and the company as a whole.
His compliance experience includes DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA requirements; ELD records; manifests and shipping papers; permit and compliance documentation; vehicle inspections; safe loading and unloading; spill prevention; and emergency-response support. He holds Class A endorsements for hazardous materials, tank vehicles, and doubles/triples.
This combination of driver, manager, trainer, and small-business-owner experience informs the practical examples and terminology used on this website. It does not replace current federal and state sources, qualified instruction, legal advice, or an employer's policies. Regulatory and safety statements are checked against primary sources whenever the subject requires them.
For privacy and security, Mercury does not publish employer names, employment dates, CDL numbers, medical information, or other license identifiers.
“It is not doing what you love, but loving what you do, that makes life a real blessing.”

Inspired by a saying widely attributed to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

How information is handled
Mercury distinguishes federal requirements, state-dependent requirements, practical experience, and editorial opinion. Important regulatory pages identify scope, sources, known limitations, and review dates. Readers can review the full editorial standards or report a correction.
